PhD Studentship: Coupling Material Simulation and Machine Learning to Speedup Polymer Compounds Development

Post-Doctoral Fellowship Position at USA, Ozbolat Laboratory at Penn State

Summary: The University of Manchester invites applications for a fully funded PhD position in multiscale modelling of polymer composites. The project, commencing in September 2024, focuses on addressing challenges in the formulation of polymeric materials, specifically the selection of plasticizers. The research will involve computational screening of potential plasticizer molecules using molecular dynamics and machine learning methods, aiming to identify optimal candidates for filler/polymer compounds. The project is co-sponsored by Continental, offering the student a 3-month secondment.

Designation: PhD Student

Research Area: Multiscale Modelling of Polymer Composites

Location: Manchester

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • UK students (fully funded project covers home fees and stipend)
  • International students with a strong CV in simulations are also encouraged to inquire
  • Relevant qualifications in materials science, chemistry, or related fields

Job Description:
