PhD Studentship: Genomic Approaches, University of Greenwich, UK

Postdoctoral Position in UK United Kingdom

PhD Studentship: Genomic Approaches: This PhD studentship encompasses research into advancing biocontrol agents for protecting crops against fungal pathogens, aiming to develop more effective and environmentally favorable solutions compared to chemical control alternatives.

PhD Studentship: Breeding Better Biocontrols: Genomic Approaches for Strain Improvement of Hyphal-Parasitic Fungi

Designation: PhD Student

Research Area

ObjectiveResearch Focus
1Generate reference genome assemblies for the biocontrol agent Clonostachys rosea
2Identify signatures of sexuality in biocontrol populations
3Characterize genetic barriers to sexual crossing
4Identify genes involved in fungal hyphal parasitism

Location: University of Greenwich, Agriculture Health and Environment Department, Natural Resources Institute

Eligibility/Qualification: Open to UK Students, EU Students, and International Students. International applicants will need to cover differences between home and international tuition fees.

Job Description: The student will conduct bioinformatic analyses of fungal genomes to identify genetic exchange and sexuality within biocontrol fungi populations. This will be complemented by lab-based studies of biocontrol interactions to identify key genes in biocontrol activity, such as hyphal parasitism.
