PhD Studentship in Bacterial Electrical Signalling: The University of Warwick invites applications for a fully funded PhD studentship focusing on the characterization of synapse-like electrical signalling in Bacillus subtilis. This unique project seeks to explore the molecular machineries of bacterial electrical communication, aiming to enhance our understanding of both bacteria-bacteria and bacteria-human interactions.

Eligibility/Qualification
- An upper second-class UK honours degree (2:1) or M.Sc. in a relevant discipline (or equivalent international qualification).
- Two satisfactory academic references.
- For international applicants, proof of English proficiency (IELTS 6.5, with no component below 6.0, or equivalent).
Project Description
The project, supervised by Dr. Munehiro Asally and Professor Nick Dale, aims to unravel the molecular and biophysical mechanisms of bacterial electrical signalling, a relatively recent field of study. The research will encompass experimental and analytical techniques such as single-cell microscopy, quantitative image analysis, molecular cloning, and membrane potential modeling. Candidates will engage with interdisciplinary research teams and have opportunities for teaching and supervising undergraduate students.
