PhD Studentship in CRISPR: The Gut Phageomics Lab at APC Microbiome Ireland, University College Cork, is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate for a fully funded 4-year research position. PhD Studentship in CRISPR-based Genetic Manipulation of Bacteriophages

Location: University College Cork, Cork, Ireland

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in Microbiology, molecular biology, or a similar discipline.
  • Proficiency in microbiology, virology, and molecular biology laboratory skills.
  • Enthusiasm and awareness of microbiology issues in society.
  • English proficiency for non-native English speakers (minimum requirements: link).

Job Description: The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Prof Andrey Shkoporov and Prof Colin Hill. Key responsibilities include conducting specified research, utilizing microbiology and molecular biology skills, collaborating with APC Microbiome Ireland researchers, and disseminating results through conferences and scientific articles. The role also involves postgraduate training, regular research data reporting, and participation in Educational and Public Engagement activities.
