Scholarship Description
Aspergillus fumigatus is a ubiquitous environmental mould capable of causing severe pulmonary and systemic diseases in humans, ranging from allergic conditions to life-threatening invasive aspergillosis. Due to rising antifungal resistance and delayed diagnostics, fungal infections remain a major global health challenge.
As a PhD researcher in this program, you will:
- Conduct high-impact basic and translational biomedical research within a collaborative setting alongside PhD students, MSc scholars, postdoctoral scientists, and clinicians.
- Cultivate microorganisms, isolate primary immune cells, and generate genetically modified fungal strains.
- Utilize advanced molecular biology, cell biology, and microscopy suites to decipher pathogenic mechanisms and test therapeutic targets.
- Present research findings at national and international conferences and publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Eligibility / Qualifications
Applicants are expected to meet the following criteria:
- A Bachelor’s (Honours) or Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Biotechnology, or a related biological sciences field.
- Strong background and hands-on laboratory experience in molecular biology, cell culture, or microbiological techniques.
- High motivation for research, intellectual curiosity, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.
