PhD Studentship in Integrating Science: A PhD studentship is available to explore the integration of science communication research into science journalism practice and broader science communication practices. PhD Studentship in Integrating Science Communication Research and Practice

Research Area: Science Communication, with a primary focus on Science Journalism

Location: Science Communication Unit, UWE Bristol

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Minimum of 2:1 in a relevant undergraduate degree (science, social science, or humanities)
  • Interest in developing data analysis skills (experience in quantitative/qualitative research techniques or willingness to learn)
  • Interest, experience, or qualification in science communication (e.g., MSc Science Communication), especially science journalism.

Job Description: The successful candidate will investigate how to bridge the gap between science communication research and practice, with a specific focus on science journalism. The research may explore the perspectives of science journalists, barriers to engaging with research, and the professionalization of the field. The study will run parallel to the European Commission-funded COALESCE project, developing a European Competence Centre for Science Communication.

Funding:

  • Start Date: 1 May 2024
  • Duration: Three years (subject to satisfactory progress)
  • Stipend: £18,622 per annum (tax-exempt)
  • Full-time tuition fees covered for up to three years for Home, EU, and International students.
