Eligibility / Qualification:

  • Candidates must hold a degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong background in metallography, electrochemistry, or alloy design is desirable.
  • UK residency is required for funding eligibility.

Job Description / Project Overview:

  • Design, produce, and characterize a Zinc-Aluminium-Magnesium coating for industrial steel applications.
  • Work with a steel company partner to ensure coatings are galvanic to steel, compatible with existing production lines, and competitive in performance.
  • Conduct hands-on experiments using Swansea University’s £1.5 million Hot Dip Simulator to simulate galvanizing lines.
  • Develop metallographic, electrochemical, and alloying skills under the guidance of supervisors, postdoctoral researchers, and fellow PhD students.
  • Participate in site visits and industry interactions to bridge academic research and practical application.
