PhD Studentship in Metallic Nanowires Synthesis, Coventry University, UK

Postdoctoral Position in UK United Kingdom
PhD Studentship in Metallic Nanowires: Coventry University offers a PhD studentship focused on a novel synthesis route for copper, nickel, and zinc nanowires using electroless and immersion deposition techniques, combined with magnetic fields and ultrasound. This research aims to explore the properties and applications of these nanowires in various fields such as electrocatalysis, wearable electronics, and environmental remediation.

LocationCoventry University, UK (with a co-tutelle program at University of Mons, Belgium)
DurationFull-Time – between three and three and a half years fixed term
Application Deadline20 January 2025

Eligibility/Qualification

  • A minimum of a 2:1 first degree in a relevant discipline/subject area with a minimum 60% mark in the project element or equivalent with a minimum 60% overall module average.
  • Potential to engage in innovative research and complete the PhD within 3.5 years.
  • Minimum English language proficiency: IELTS academic overall minimum score of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in each component.

Description

The project seeks to develop metallic nanowires (MNWs) for various applications by optimizing the synthesis process through electroless deposition initiated by magnetic particles. The successful candidate will explore a systematic methodology to produce MNWs approximately 50 nm in size, evaluating the processes for efficiency and scalability. Key focuses include the examination of various parameters affecting nanowire formation, acoustic removal techniques, and the evaluation of material properties for practical applications, particularly in environmental remediation.
