PhD Studentship: Organoborane Catalysis, University of Leicester, UK

Postdoctoral Position in UK United Kingdom

Summary: This PhD project focuses on advancing organoborane catalysis to develop novel methods for the synthesis, functionalisation, and deconstruction of amines. The research will contribute significantly to drug discovery by enabling the production of new amine structures previously deemed impossible to synthesize.

New Frontiers in Organoborane Catalysis: Functionalisation and Deconstruction of Amines PhD Studentship

Scholarship Post: New Frontiers in Organoborane Catalysis

Designation:

PhD Candidate

Research Area:

Chemistry, with a focus on organoborane catalysis, synthetic methodology, and drug discovery.

Location:

University of Leicester, School of Chemistry

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A degree in Chemistry or a related subject.
  • Previous experience in synthetic chemistry (e.g., final year projects, teaching labs).
  • For international candidates, an understanding of alternative funding to cover international fees is required.
  • Candidates must be able to work independently and engage effectively with researchers in both academic and pharmaceutical settings.

Job Description:

As a PhD candidate, you will:

  • Investigate the ability of organoboranes to activate amines and explore innovative catalytic methods.
  • Develop new methodologies for synthesizing amines that can be easily implemented in drug discovery programs.
  • Apply your findings to real-world applications, including late-stage functionalization and target synthesis.
  • Receive high-level training in synthetic organic chemistry and become proficient in analytical techniques, primarily NMR spectroscopy and Mass Spectrometry.

How to Apply:

Interested candidates should submit their applications via the online application system of the University of Leicester. Applications should include a brief description of previous synthetic chemistry experience and any relevant academic transcripts.
