PhD Studentship: UNanoplastics and Nanomaterials: We are pleased to announce a four-year fully funded PhD studentship opportunity in the field of Biological Sciences, aimed at understanding the environmental impact of plastic pollution on fish. The project will focus on the dietary accumulation and toxicity of nanoplastics (NPs) and nanomaterials, particularly zinc oxide, in fish, exploring the interaction of these pollutants and their effects on animal physiology. The successful candidate will benefit from comprehensive training and research opportunities at the University of Plymouth and Diamond Light Source.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • First or upper second-class (2:1) honours degree in an appropriate subject or a relevant Masters qualification (e.g., Biology, Marine Biology, Environmental Science, Ecotoxicology or similar)
  • Knowledge and experience in Biology or Toxicology is desirable
  • Only open to candidates eligible for Home fees with relevant qualifications (regrettably no international students)

Job Description:
The successful candidate will conduct research to understand the effect of plastic pollution from dietary exposures (ingestion) in fish combined with the presence of zinc oxide nanomaterials. The project will involve cell culture and dietary (feeding) studies, with training provided in animal husbandry, experimental methodologies, and sample analysis. The candidate will work under the guidance of Dr. Nathaniel Clark and other experienced supervisors.
