PhD Thesis Opportunity: UCLouvain in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, offers an exciting PhD thesis opportunity starting at the latest on December 17, 2023. The position is for 24 months, renewable for an additional 24 months, with funding provided through a doctoral fellowship. The net monthly amount is approximately €2370. The research project, led by Prof. Ludovic Trofan-Gauier, focuses on developing novel dye-sensitized photoelectrosynthetic cells (DSPECs) for generating solar fuels through water oxidation and proton reduction. The research aims to innovate photosensitizers and catalysts, evaluate their performance and stability in photoclectrodes and DSPEC devices, and work on intellectual property and valorization aspects.
Designation: PhD Researcher
Research Area: Dye-Sensitized Photoelectrosynthetic Cells (DSPECs), Solar Fuels, Photosensitizers, Catalysis, Sustainable Transition
Location: UCLouvain, Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium
Eligibility/Qualification:
- Successful master’s degree (minimum grade “Distinction” or equivalent, e.g., 214/20) in experimental Physics, Chemistry, or Engineering.
- Strong motivation and desire to contribute to sustainable innovations.
Job Description: The selected candidate will work on the development of novel DSPECs for generating solar fuels, including oxygen and hydrogen, through water oxidation and proton reduction. This will involve innovating photosensitizers and catalysts and conducting in-depth characterizations using various spectroscopic techniques. The candidate will also evaluate photoclectrodes and DSPEC devices for catalytic performance, stability, and recyclability. The research is part of the “FNRS Wel-T” program, with a focus on intellectual property and valorization processes.
How to Apply: Interested candidates should send their applications by email to Ludovic Troisn@uclouvain.be as soon as possible. Applications should include an updated CV, a motivation letter, and the names of two relevant academic references who can be contacted for further information. Applications will be evaluated continuously until a suitable candidate is hired.
