PhD Thesis Opportunity: A fully funded PhD opportunity is available under the Global PhD Partnership between UCLouvain and KULeuven, Belgium. The selected candidate will work on developing novel photosensitizers using computational and experimental methods. The PhD will be co-supervised by Prof. Ludovic Troian-Gauber (UCLouvain) and Prof. Daniel Escudero (KULeuven). The successful candidate will receive a doctoral fellowship with a net monthly stipend of approximately €2370.

PhD Thesis Opportunity in Co-Supervision between UCLouvain and KULeuven, Belgium

Designation: PhD Researcher (PIO Researcher)

Research Area: Computational and Experimental Chemistry – Development of Earth-Abundant Photosensitizers

Location:

  • Two years (2×1 year) at KULeuven
  • Two years (2×1 year) at UCLouvain

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry or a related field
  • Minimum required grade: “Distinction” (≥14/20)
  • Research experience in experimental and theoretical chemistry is highly desirable

Job Description:

  • Conduct research in computational and experimental chemistry to develop long-lived earth-abundant photosensitizers
  • Perform computational screening of photosensitizers, analyze absorption spectra, and study excited-state energy landscapes
  • Synthesize and study selected photosensitizers using spectroscopic techniques
  • Compare and refine computational and experimental results in an iterative research loop
  • Successfully complete the PhD program and obtain a dual diploma from UCLouvain and KULeuven
