Post Doc Researcher in Energy Modelling: Eurac Research is inviting applications for a full-time postdoctoral research position in the field of building energy modelling and resilience analysis. The position, located in Bozen/Bolzano, Italy, is within the Healthy and Comfortable Buildings team of the Energy Efficient Building research group at the Institute for Renewable Energy. The researcher will contribute to developing low-energy cooling design solutions, assessing building resilience to heat waves, analyzing user lifestyles, and evaluating the impact on building energy performance.

Study Area: Building Energy Modelling, Resilience Analysis

Location: Bozen/Bolzano, Italy

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD with a focus on building performance analysis or equivalent experience in the industrial/construction sector.
  • Good knowledge of ventilation principles, fluid dynamics, and heat and mass transfer in buildings.
  • Experience in developing whole building energy models using tools like EnergyPlus, Trnsys, or equivalent detailed simulation tools.
  • Research skills with experience in literature searches, simulation experiment design, and data analysis.
  • Interest in building resilience, smart ventilation, indoor comfort, and low-energy cooling design.
  • Desirable experience with Grasshopper tools for parametric analysis and programming languages like Python or R.
  • Very good knowledge of English; knowledge of Italian or German is desirable.
  • Leadership in peer-reviewed publications is an asset.
  • Ability to work autonomously and in a multidisciplinary research team.

Description: The Post Doc Researcher will be responsible for designing, running, and validating coupled thermal and airflow models. They will develop low-energy cooling solutions, assess heat wave risk, and analyze parametric building energy simulations. The role also involves collaboration with research and industry partners, contribution to project management, and supervision of students and internships.
