Post-doctoral fellow in carbon dynamics, Lund University, Sweden

postdoctoral fellow lund university

Post-doctoral fellow in carbon dynamics: Lund University invites applications for a fully funded two-year postdoctoral position in the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science. The successful candidate will conduct research on the modelling of soil carbon cycling dynamics, focusing on the impact of climate on soil organic carbon dynamics. This position offers an opportunity to work in an international and interdisciplinary environment, collaborating closely with experts in the field.

Post-doctoral fellow in modelling soil carbon cycling dynamics

Designation: Post-doctoral Fellow

Research Area: Modelling soil carbon cycling dynamics

Location: Lunds universitet, Lund, Skåne län, Sweden

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Hold a PhD or an international degree deemed equivalent in Hydrogeology, Engineering, Soil or Environmental Science, Biogeochemistry, or similar, completed no more than three years before the date of application.
  • Excellent programming skills, preferably in Matlab, Fortran, or C/C++.
  • Experience in mechanistic modelling of vadose zone and soil processes.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including a solid understanding of ODEs and numerical methods.
  • Experience in bridging the gap between models and empirical work.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.

Job Description:

  • Conduct research on the impact of climate on soil organic carbon dynamics, focusing on the integration of microbial responses to cycles of drying and rewetting.
  • Integrate key microbial and carbon compartments from the models ECOSMMARTS and RothC into the hydro-biogeochemical model HYDRUS to provide a more accurate representation of microbial processes.
  • Serve as a link between the modelling team and an empirical team, collaborating closely with researchers from the Department of Biology.
  • Promote career development, including the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning.
  • Supervise students and seek external research funding, with teaching responsibilities up to no more than 20% of working hours.

How to Apply:

Applications shall be written in English and must include ALL the following elements (compiled into a single PDF-file):

  1. Cover letter with a general description of past research and future research interests (max 2 pages).
  2. Résumé/CV, including a list of publications (max 5 pages).
  3. Contact information of two references.
  4. Copy of the doctoral degree certificate, and other certificates/grades that you wish to be considered (max 3).
