Post-doctoral Fellow – Stable Isotope Conservation Forensics: Join the Baker Laboratory at the School of Biological Sciences as a Post-doctoral Fellow/Senior Research Associate. Research group is seeking a highly qualified candidate with expertise in stable isotope methods to lead a project on developing a rapid test for differentiating ivories sourced from modern elephants and prehistoric mammoths. This is a full-time position for a period of two years, with the possibility of renewal.

Research Area: Stable Isotope Conservation Forensics

Location: School of Biological Sciences, HKU, Pokfulam, Hong Kong

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Ph.D. degree in ecological, environmental, geo-sciences, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated publication record of question-driven science.
  • Solid foundation in conventional stable isotope methods, including bulk to compound specific approaches and data analysis.

Job Description:

  • Lead a new project to develop a rapid stable isotope test for differentiating ivories from modern elephants and prehistoric mammoths.
  • Explore research opportunities in conservation forensics, marine ecology, or other related areas of mutual interest.
  • Supervise graduate and undergraduate research.
  • Assist with SIRMS (Stable Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry) laboratory operations, including methods development and promotions.
  • Publish research findings.
