Post-Doctoral Position – Data Analyst: IMT Nord Europe is seeking a qualified candidate for a Post-Doctoral position at the Centre of Education, Research, and Innovation on Energy and Environment (CERI EE). This 18-month position involves research in the Observations, Sources, and Processes in the Atmosphere (OSPA) research axis. The focus is on the spatial and temporal variability of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in atmospheric samples and deposits to study their sources and transport patterns.

Post-Doctoral Position – Data Analyst in Atmospheric Science Applied to PAH in Ambient Air and Deposition Fluxes

Designation: Post-Doctorante/Post-Doctorant

Research Area: Observations, Sources, and Processes in the Atmosphere (OSPA) – Analysis of PAHs in ambient air and deposition fluxes.

Location: Bourseul Campus, Douai, France

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in atmospheric sciences or a related field.
  • Previous experience in data science is highly desirable.

Job Description: The selected candidate will:

  • Consolidate databases to assess quality and combine multiple datasets.
  • Analyze data using statistical techniques to evaluate spatial and temporal variability and trends.
  • Write research results and contribute to dissemination through publications, conferences, and outreach activities.
  • Participate in collaborative work internally and externally.
  • Undertake organizational and administrative activities connected to the research project.
  • Provide guidance to other staff and students if needed.
  • Participate in teaching activities.

Knowledge and Skills:

Essential:

  • Air pollution sources and pollutants, their chemistry, and fate.
  • Demonstrated ability to write up research for publication in high-quality journals.
  • Effective communication skills for a wide range of audiences.
  • Competency to conduct individual and collaborative research projects.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work to meet deadlines.

Desirable:

  • Data analysis using statistical techniques (Principal Component Analysis, clustering techniques, trend analysis).
  • Experience in the analysis of air mass backtrajectories (e.g., HYSPLIT).
  • Scientific programming (R, IgorPro).
  • PAH sampling and analysis.

Conditions: The job is offered on a full-time, fixed-term basis for 18 months (temporary contract) with a starting date aimed at June 1, 2024.
