Post-doctoral Position in Computational Materials Science – Rennes, FRANCE

CEMEF Postdoctoral Fellowship in France- Apply by 31 October 2020

Post-doctoral Position in Computational Materials: The Institute of Chemical Sciences of Rennes (ISCR) at the Université de Rennes (UR) is offering a full-time 24-month post-doctoral position (with the possibility of extension) in Computational Materials Science. The position will be supervised by George Volonakis of the CTI group and is funded by the ANR SURFIN project (SURFaces and Interfaces of Novel perovskites and perovskitoids). The successful candidate will join the established research team at Rennes working on the electronic structure of energy materials, starting in January 2024.

Designation: Post-doctoral Researcher

Research Area: Computational Materials Science

Location: Institute of Chemical Sciences of Rennes (ISCR), Université de Rennes, France

Eligibility/Qualification: Applicants for this position must hold a Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a closely related discipline. The ideal candidate should have robust expertise in solid-state physics, quantum chemistry, and atomistic materials modeling approaches. Prior experience in utilizing ab initio methods for surface property calculations and many-body approaches beyond standard DFT (e.g., GW, BSE) is considered highly valuable. The candidate should also demonstrate strong motivation, excellent communication skills, and a collaborative spirit to work closely with both theoreticians and experimentalists.

Job Description: The post-doctoral researcher will work on the ANR SURFIN project, employing an ab initio approach to systematically study the surfaces of prominent perovskite and related materials for energy-related applications. The focus will be on calculating the materials’ absolute energy levels, critical for identifying potential photo-catalytic activity, designing selective contacts between device layers, and engineering optimized transport layers for opto-electronic devices.

How to Apply: Applications are now open, and candidates are encouraged to email their application to yorgos.volonakis@univ-rennes.fr. The application should include (i) a detailed CV, including a clear description of previous research experience, and (ii) a motivation letter with contact details of at least two referees.

Last Date for Apply: Until position filled

Important Dates:

  • October/November 2023: Notification of the candidates and interviews.
  • July 2023: Position open.
  • January 2024: Start of the position.
