Post-Doctoral Research Fellow: The University of Essex is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow for the School of Life Sciences. Location: Colchester

Eligibility/Qualification: The successful candidate should hold a relevant doctoral level degree in environmental science, chemistry, biology, or equivalent professional experience. They will be appointed to the post of Senior Research Officer.

Job Description: The researcher in this role will lead research on validating chemical proxies for movement and environmental histories, with a particular focus on hypoxia. Responsibilities include day-to-day data and lab management, fieldwork/sample collections, labwork and method development, data analysis, publication writing, maintaining relationships with project partners, and public outreach. The ideal candidate will have experience in ecology and laboratory work, preferably in fish ecology/physiology, otolith chemistry/sclerochronology, environmental chemistry, fieldwork, and/or geochemistry. They should be confident in problem-solving and organizing this multifaceted project, leading on various aspects of the research.

The Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will undertake or manage practical elements of research, including setting up and conducting experiments, conducting fieldwork, analyzing data, and engaging in individual and/or collaborative research activities resulting in internationally excellent publications in line with Research Excellence Framework (REF) criteria.
