Post-Doctoral Research Fellow: The African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS) is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to join its Science, Technology, Innovation, Knowledge and Society (STIKS) Programme. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, this position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to policy-oriented research and dissemination activities, supporting projects related to Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) within the African context. The successful candidate will work closely with the STIKS Programme Manager and other stakeholders, conducting high-quality research and contributing to capacity-building initiatives.

Eligibility/Qualification:
Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD Degree in a relevant field (e.g., science and technology studies, research and innovation management, science policy, innovation studies, development economics, sociology of science, innovation policy, Policy and governance, and development studies)
  • Minimum of 1-2 years post PhD research experience in STI studies, Science Policy, and Innovation studies
  • Established publication record with a minimum of 2 publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Evidence of winning research project funding, preferably as principal investigator or co-principal investigator
  • Experience organizing multistakeholder events of different scopes and formats

  • Multi-tasking and problem-solving abilities
  • Project management skills

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of STI policy and concepts, and/or science policy theories and concepts
  • Gender equality and inclusivity

  • Respect for others inside and outside the workplace

Desirable Competences:

  • Knowledge of African STI actors and institutions, including African government policy processes
  • Experience working with or advising African science granting councils or ministries of science, technology, and/or innovation
  • Experience conducting Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) projects
  • Experience managing and reporting on international development partner funding

Job Description:
The Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will support the implementation of projects funded by the Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI) and undertake policy research in STI. Responsibilities include participating in research proposal development, supporting capacity-building activities, producing high-quality policy outputs, and supporting junior researchers in the program.
