Post Doctoral Research Fellow: Join the Geddes and Lopez Echartea labs in the Department of Microbiological Sciences at North Dakota State University. We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on a USDA-funded project focusing on the Rules of Assembly of the Root Nodule Microbiome. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to understanding multipartite plant-microbe interactions and reduce reliance on chemicals in agriculture.
Designation: Post Doctoral Research Fellow
Research Area: Rules of Assembly of the Root Nodule Microbiome
Location: Fargo, North Dakota
Eligibility/Qualification:
- PhD (or nearing completion) in Microbiology, Microbial Ecology, Plant Sciences, Plant Pathology, Biology, Biochemistry, or related life sciences
- Experience with next-generation sequencing and analyzing microbial community datasets
- Experience with preparing microbial consortia
- Molecular biology and bacterial genetics experience
- Experience growing plants in controlled conditions
Job Description:
The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be responsible for:
- Investigating the relative strengths of host, rhizobia, soil, and drought stress as drivers of nodule microbiome composition
- Establishing a culture collection of nodule microbiota to develop it as a simplified model for plant microbiome assembly
- Using synthetic communities to directly test hypotheses related to the establishment of the nodule microbial community in the context of host-microbiome interactions, microbe-microbe interactions with rhizobia, and drought stress
