Post-Doctoral Research Scientist: Join the Moredun Research Institute’s Immunology group in a collaborative effort with Moredun Scientific. The role involves the development and evaluation of a Streptococcus suis vaccine candidate, focusing on understanding the antibody response in immunised pigs for enhanced vaccine protection.
Designation: Post-Doctoral Research Scientist
Research Area: Immunology, Microbiology, Biochemistry
Location: Pentlands Science Park, near Edinburgh
Eligibility/Qualification:
- PhD in Immunology, Microbiology, or Biochemistry
- Proficiency in biochemistry, immunochemistry, and analyzing antibody responses in mammals
- Understanding of mammalian immunology and cellular immunology
- Ability to design, run, and troubleshoot assays for antibody function in bacterial infection control
Job Description:
The incumbent will characterize the antibody response in immunised pigs to understand mechanisms of vaccine protection. The role entails testing for bactericidal antibody induction post-vaccination, and if necessary, exploring alternative hypotheses such as the role of macrophages, T cells, or polymorphonuclear cells in controlling S. suis infection.
