Designation: Researcher
Research Area: Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience
Location: Advanced ICT Research Institute, Center for Information and Neural Networks (CiNet), Suita, Osaka, Japan

Postdoc at CiNet:

The Advanced ICT Research Institute is seeking a Fixed-Term Researcher to work in the Neural Information Engineering Laboratory at the Center for Information and Neural Networks (CiNet). The selected candidate will perform cutting-edge research on the computational and neural mechanisms involved in cognitive control, learning, and concept knowledge formation. The research will focus on areas such as category learning, memory formation, and visual perception, with a strong emphasis on using behavioral and neuroimaging experiments to test hypotheses.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Ph.D. in Cognitive/Computational Neuroscience, Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields.
  • Candidates with a BSc/MSc and research experience (e.g., as a research assistant) will also be considered.
  • Experience in neuroimaging (fMRI, MEG/EEG) and behavioral experiments.
  • Expertise in computational cognitive neuroscience (cognitive models, neural networks).
  • Proficiency in programming (Python, Pytorch/TensorFlow or equivalent). Knowledge of C++, Matlab, R, or Julia is also acceptable.
  • Strong English language skills are essential; Japanese language proficiency is desirable.
  • One peer-reviewed publication or a writing sample may be requested.

Job Description:

  • Investigate the computational and neural mechanisms underlying cognitive control, learning, and category formation in the hippocampus, prefrontal, and anterior/inferior temporal cortex.
  • Conduct behavioral and neuroimaging experiments using fMRI and potentially MEG/OPM/TUS technologies.
  • Develop and apply novel computational models, including deep neural networks, in collaboration with the research group.
  • Candidates may also apply for competitive research funding, including NICT’s internal funding and the Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI).

Salary: ¥419,000–¥516,000 per month (determined based on experience and responsibilities). The salary is compliant with government employee wage policies and may be revised following labor agreements.

Contract Period: Hiring date until March 31, 2025. Renewal of the contract is possible up to March 31, 2027, based on performance and project continuation.

Working Hours: 5 days a week (7.5 hours/day).

How to Apply:

Interested candidates should prepare a complete application, including a CV, research statement, and any relevant publications or writing samples. Applications should be submitted electronically through the recruitment portal on the official website of the Center for Information and Neural Networks.

Last Date to Apply: Until position filled
