Eligibility/Qualification

  • Education: Master’s degree and preferably a PhD in computer science, natural sciences, mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience: Strong scientific record demonstrated through publications in relevant journals; solid background in quantitative/statistical methods.
  • Skills:
  • Expertise in at least one of the following: HPC, training large AI models (e.g., PyTorch/JAX/TensorFlow), data analysis/statistics.
  • Excellent programming skills in Python (C/C++ is a plus); experience with HPC environments (e.g., SLURM) is welcome.
  • Interest in biological questions and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Very good English skills; knowledge of German is an advantage.
  • Desirable: Experience with multimodal omics data or medical imaging data; contributions to open-source projects.

Job Description

In this role, you will:

  • Set up and optimize large-scale training and inference runs for foundation models on JUPITER, Europe’s first exascale supercomputer.
  • Integrate diverse data sources (e.g., scRNA-seq, ATAC-seq, spatial transcriptomics) into models and develop efficient data/training pipelines.
  • Collaborate on application cases focused on disease modeling, prediction of cell states, and patient stratification.
  • Contribute to the development of model architectures (e.g., transformers, multimodal fusion).
  • Present results at conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
