Postdoc – Holland Hybrid Heart Consortium: Join our team as a Postdoc in the Holland Hybrid Heart Consortium, working on a groundbreaking project to produce the first-ever soft-robotics, hybrid-tissue total artificial heart. The consortium focuses on fundamental research leading up to animal trials, aiming to develop an artificial heart with unique properties, including pliability, pulsatile flow, and a tissue-engineered lining.

Location: Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, Netherlands

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Bachelor and master’s degrees in Biomechanics, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Medicine, (Soft) Robotics, or related fields.
  • Affinity with the cardiovascular system and heart mechanics.
  • Skills in fluid mechanics, implantable devices, and heart mechanics.
  • Hands-on and practical project experience.
  • Creative mindset with the ability to tackle unknown challenges.
  • Excellent communication and knowledge-sharing skills for multidisciplinary collaboration.

Job Description:

  • Design and fabrication of prototypes for the Holland Hybrid Heart.
  • Implementation and evaluation of an active or passive balancing mechanism to the prototype.
  • Focus on energy efficiency and size minimization.
  • Develop a platform for testing different prototypes to facilitate and speed up experiments.

Terms of Employment:

  • 4-year contract.
  • Gross monthly salary up to €7.570 (scale 13), based on education and experience.
  • Excellent fringe benefits, including a 13th-month salary and individual travel expense package.
  • Pension insurance with ABP, covering approximately 2/3 of the monthly contribution.
  • Special benefits, such as an in-company physiotherapist, bicycle repairer, and access to an on-site gym.
