Job Description
How do cells organize into complex human tissues, and can AI uncover tissue architecture in health and disease? The Koplev lab at KTH and SciLifeLab, in collaboration with Assistant Professor Wei Ouyang’s AICell Lab, is developing autonomous AI scientist systems that execute code, evaluate results, refine approaches, and generate testable biological hypotheses.
Focusing on human gastrointestinal diseases such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and colorectal cancer, the postdoc will lead computational projects at the intersection of AI, machine learning, and spatial biology. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and evaluating AI agents for automated analysis of single-cell and spatial transcriptomics data.
- Integrating large-scale spatial transcriptomics datasets across diverse technologies, tissues, and disease states.
- Investigating biological mechanisms of tissue organization, intercellular signaling, and immune cell migration.
- Disseminating research findings through scientific peer-reviewed publications, international conferences, and open-source software tools.
- Mentoring students and contributing to the scientific leadership of a dynamic, multidisciplinary research group.
Eligibility & Qualifications
Mandatory Requirements
- A doctoral degree (PhD) or equivalent foreign degree (must be completed by the time the employment decision is made).
- Substantial research expertise in computational biology methods tailored to single-cell or spatial transcriptomics data.
- Proven scientific excellence demonstrated by strong publications and an active track record relative to career stage.
- Demonstrated experience in developing or applying machine learning methods (e.g., deep learning, foundation models, large language models, or autonomous AI agents).
Preferred Qualifications
- A doctoral degree completed within the last three years prior to the application deadline.
- High degree of scientific creativity and curiosity.
- Strong expertise in data visualization and scientific communication.
- Exceptional collaborative abilities and capacity to work independently.
- Interest or prior experience in student supervision, teaching, and mentorship.
- Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, particularly gender equality.
How to Apply
Applications must be submitted online through KTH’s recruitment portal. Your application must be complete and submitted before the deadline with the following documents:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV): Documenting relevant professional, educational, and computational research experience.
- Letter of Motivation: A brief letter (maximum 2 pages) outlining your research interests, how your background aligns with the position, and your future career goals.
- Degree Certificate / PhD Diploma: Copies of your doctoral degree certificate (with certified translations into English or Swedish if issued in another language).
