Project Summary

Sweden maintains a well-developed infrastructure for utilizing biomass as an energy material and industrial feedstock, creating ideal conditions for deploying negative emission technologies. This postdoctoral position is part of an Interregional EU project within the Baltic region (Interreg Baltic). The initiative focuses on exploring and establishing robust value chains for biogenic CO2 (bioCO2) to replace fossil carbon across key industrial sectors.

Job Description

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will collaborate closely with biogas producers across the Baltic region to design and develop efficient processes for separating and upgrading bioCO2. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting field measurements on-site at biogas production plants.
  • Performing laboratory-scale experiments to measure and estimate unknown model parameters.
  • Executing theoretical in-silico process design calculations, process simulations, and cost estimations.
  • Bridging academic research with industrial development and interacting with cross-sector stakeholders.
  • Mentoring and supervising undergraduate and Master’s level students.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Mandatory Requirements

  • A doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a closely related discipline (must be completed by the time of the employment decision).
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out independent scientific research, complete experimental campaigns, and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals.
  • In-depth knowledge of chemical engineering fundamentals, including transport phenomena, separation technologies, and reaction engineering.
  • Experience in process simulation, numerical modelling, or data-driven process analysis.
  • Working knowledge of inorganic chemistry and analytical methods for detecting and analyzing CO2 in solvent and gas phases.
  • Proven experience in teaching and supervising undergraduate/Master’s students.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A PhD completed within the last three years prior to the application deadline.
  • Prior experience in experimental or theoretical process development in carbon capture and utilization (CCU/bioCCUS).
  • Experience working in industry-collaborative research projects and delivering project reports or technical deliverables.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken Swedish.
