Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Required:
  • PhD in agricultural sciences, crop modelling, soil hydrology, digital agriculture, or a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in crop modelling, specifically APSIM.
  • Experience with field data collection focusing on crop water use efficiency/soil hydrology.
  • Proficiency in scientific writing and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Collaborative skills with the ability to work in teams.
  • Preferred:
  • Experience with digital sensors (e.g., drones, soil probes).
  • Coding skills (e.g., Python) for deep learning and data fusion.
  • Teaching and supervision experience at BSc and MSc levels.
  • Interest in developing competitive national and international research applications.

Job Description:

The selected candidate will:

  • Collect high-time resolution data on deep root traits, crop canopy dynamics, and water use efficiency of perennial grain crops in varying conditions.
  • Validate digital sensors for crop water use determination.
  • Conduct crop modelling (e.g., using APSIM) with an emphasis on water use efficiency.
  • Integrate digital sensing technology with model platforms for improved calibration.
