Postdoc in Molecular Geobiology at University of Copenhagen, Denmark

The University of Copenhagen has four campus areas. As distances in Copenhagen are relatively small, it is easy to get from one campus to the other either by bicycle or public transportation. The campus areas are integrated into the city of Copenhagen and students use the facilities available in the city, adding a lively buzz to the streets and cafés of Copenhagen.

Postdoc in Molecular Geobiology: The University of Copenhagen is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Molecular Geobiology group at the GLOBE Institute. This role focuses on investigating the taphonomy of environmental DNA and its association with sediments using advanced microscopy and spectroscopy techniques.

Designation:
Postdoctoral Researcher

Research Area:
Molecular Geobiology, DNA-Sediment Associations, Taphonomy

Location:
GLOBE Institute, Section for Geogenetics, Copenhagen, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A PhD in biology, physics, geology, chemistry, or a related field.
  • Experience in wet lab approaches, fluorescent microscopy, staining techniques, and/or spectroscopy techniques.
  • Familiarity with atomic force microscopy is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in English and effective communication skills.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work independently in laboratory settings.

Job Description:
The candidate will conduct research to understand the preservation and interaction of environmental DNA with sediments. Techniques such as FTIR, Raman spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy will be employed. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting model studies on DNA-sediment interactions.
  • Developing updated DNA extraction procedures.
  • Characterize collected sediment samples.
  • Collaborate with a diverse team to advance interdisciplinary research.

How to Apply:
Interested candidates must submit their applications online in English. The application should include the following documents in PDF format:

  1. A motivated letter of application (max. one page).
