Research Area:
The research focuses on understanding individual fish movement and its ecological implications using advanced tracking technologies and the development of digital twins for animal movement.
Location:
GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, Kiel, Germany on the Baltic Sea.
Eligibility/Qualification:
- Diploma/MSc and PhD degree or equivalent in Biology, Marine Biology, Statistics, or related subjects.
- Published or in-progress manuscripts on movement ecology, behavioural ecology, marine or aquatic ecology, or machine-learning.
- Expertise in movement modeling and programming (Python or R).
- Excellent command of written and spoken English.
Job Description:
- Lead the construction of a prototype digital twin of animal movement in the North Sea using the European Digital Twin of the Ocean (EDITO) platform.
- Develop and assess predictive models of fish movement from archived data.
- Collaborate with international project partners on various scientific outputs, including interactions of marine fauna with infrastructure and behavioural analyses of species like Atlantic Cod and Atlantic Mackerel.
- Participate in the interdisciplinary research environment within the European Aquatic Animal Tracking Network.
