Postdoc in Neural Mechanisms : Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU), a research university founded in 1607, invites applications for the position of Postdoc in the research area of Neural Mechanisms of Action and Perception. The position is part of the externally funded project “Neural mechanisms underlying action-based predictions and their effects on perception” at the Professorship of Systems Neuroscience of Mental Illness, Department of Psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine. The successful candidate will join a new lab passionate about the human brain and cognitive neuroscience. The position offers a flexible starting date (preferably as soon as possible) and is limited until December 31, 2025.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Completed Master’s or equivalent university degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, or a related field.
  • Doctorate degree (or in the process of completing a PhD).
  • Basic theoretical knowledge in the area of (visual) cognitive neuroscience.
  • Experience with independently collecting fMRI data.
  • Experience with fMRI data analysis.
  • Very good programming skills (Matlab and/or Python).
  • Very good English skills in both spoken and written form.

Job Description:

  • Work on the externally funded project “Neural mechanisms underlying action-based predictions and their effects on perception.”
  • Investigate how action-based predictions affect perception and neural processing using fMRI, MVPA, and retinotopic mapping.
  • Conceive, implement, and analyze fMRI and behavioral studies.
  • Present research results at scientific conferences and in publications.
