Postdoc in Nuclear Fuel Materials: The KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of Engineering Sciences, seeks an ambitious and motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the Nuclear Science and Engineering (NSE) Division. This position focuses on studying the thermal stability and pellet-cladding mechanical and chemical interaction of burnup simulated doped UO2 fuel under the ADOPTTM SIMFUEL project, in collaboration with Westinghouse and Chalmers University of Technology.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Doctoral Degree: A PhD or equivalent foreign degree in Nuclear Engineering, Materials Science, Engineering Mechanics, or a related field, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline.
  • Preferred Experience:
  • Hands-on experience in lab work related to sintering, powder metallurgy, and characterization techniques.
  • Knowledge in modeling techniques, including mesoscale and multiphysics finite element modeling.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
  • Teaching experience is advantageous.
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, especially regarding gender equality.

Job Description

The selected candidate will lead research efforts employing both experimental and computational methods to evaluate the effects of fission products on the thermal and mechanical properties of Cr2O3 and Al2O3 doped UO2. Responsibilities include conducting experiments to study pellet-cladding mechanical and chemical interactions (PCMI and PCCI) and analyzing data to draw meaningful conclusions.
