Description:
The Synthetic Cell Programming lab, led by Dr. Santos-Moreno, seeks a highly-motivated postdoctoral researcher to engineer synthetic gene circuits for time programming in E. coli cells. This position is funded by an ERC Starting Grant (project: TICK-TOCK Do and Die). Dr. Santos-Moreno’s past achievements include tool development for synthetic biology and engineering diverse members of the human microbiome.

The lab is part of the Medicine and Life Sciences department at University Pompeu Fabra, located at the Biomedical Research Park of Barcelona (PRBB), offering a stimulating and international research environment. The successful candidate will work in a young and dynamic team committed to maintaining a respectful, inclusive, and friendly working environment.

Your Role:
The successful candidate will design and build synthetic gene circuits, characterize and fine-tune them, and connect them to other circuits/actuator modules. Responsibilities include writing articles, presenting results, training students, collaborating with other labs, and applying for postdoc fellowships. Optional participation in teaching and outreach activities is available.

Requirements:

  1. PhD in life sciences
  2. One or more 1st-author publications in major peer-reviewed international journals
  3. Experience in wet-lab synthetic or molecular biology; experience in gene circuit design or modeling is highly desirable, along with experience in bacterial cultivation, microfluidics, dynamic systems, synthetic memory, or biocontainment.
