Postdoc in the Fabrication of Metal Supported Solid Oxide Cells – DTU Energy, Denmark

Postdoc Position in DTU, Technical University of Denmark

Postdoc in the Fabrication of Metal: DTU Energy is offering a postdoctoral position in the fabrication of metal supported solid oxide cells (MSSOCs) as part of a project portfolio focusing on the development and upscaling of metal supported solid oxide cell technology. This position provides an excellent opportunity for materials scientists interested in electrochemical energy conversion and storage devices to contribute to the reduction and removal of fossil fuels by developing efficient energy storage solutions.

Designation: Postdoctoral Researcher

Research Area: Fabrication of Metal Supported Solid Oxide Cells (MSSOCs)

Location: Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD degree (or equivalent) in materials science, physics, chemistry, engineering, or a related field.
  • Innovative skills and the ability to work in cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in materials processing, physical & chemical characterization, and ceramic processing.
  • Proficient in English communication, both written and spoken.
  • Additional experience with high-temperature ceramics and/or slurry/paste-based ceramic shaping is advantageous.

Job Description: The postdoc position involves working on ceramic shaping and manufacturing processes, specifically in screen printing and tape casting. The focus will be on fabricating metal supported solid oxide cells (MSSOCs) and conducting physical, structural, and electrochemical characterizations. Key tasks include formulating inks/slurries for screen printing and tape casting, optimizing the microstructure of different layers in MSSOCs, and integrating the developed layers into full MSSOCs for evaluation of their electrochemical performance. The ultimate goal is to demonstrate the operation of MSSOCs at an electrolysis current density of 1 A/cm2 with a degradation below 0.5%/1000h.
