Eligibility / Qualification
- Formal Education: Must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in Materials Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field.
- Core Expertise: Strong background in several of the following areas:
- X-ray physics
- Microstructural characterization
- Plastic deformation
- Crystallography
- Physical metallurgy
- Mechanics and local strain analysis
- Advantageous Skills: Experience with synchrotron or laboratory 3D/4D diffraction imaging.
- Language Proficiency: Excellent written and oral English communication skills.
Job Description & Responsibilities
- Develop local strain analysis tools for laboratory 4D X-ray micro-beam diffraction (Lab-4DµXRD).
- Perform in situ Lab-4DµXRD experiments to track microstructural evolution during tensile loading of aluminum samples containing second-phase intermetallic particles.
- Conduct synchrotron-based diffraction experiments to validate Lab-4DµXRD results.
- Implement crystal plasticity finite element models (CPFEM) utilizing experimental data to understand observed local strain heterogeneities.
- Collaborate closely with senior scientists, technicians, Postdocs, and PhD students.
