Scientific & Technical Background

  • A PhD (or equivalent research experience) in Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Applied Physics/Optics, Data Science, or related disciplines.
  • Background or strong interest in microbial biotechnology (including fermentation technology).
  • Experience with (bio)chemical analytical techniques (e.g., spectroscopy, HPLC, optical density).
  • Competence in data analysis; proficiency with programming languages (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB) is considered a major advantage.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Experimental Integration: Lead the laboratory integration of a commercial spectroscopic sensor into fermentor setups and gather relevant single-cell microbial fermentation data.
  • Computational Data Analysis: Perform signal processing, sensor calibration, and data analytics to bridge wet-lab and computational workflows.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with postdocs, PhD candidates, and technicians across microbial physiology, applied optics, and data science within the consortium to explore complementary sensing strategies.
  • Professional Development: Leverage built-in funding to complete two specialized BioTech Delft Advanced Courses, attend Dutch Biotechnology Association activities, and present findings at biotechnology conferences.
