Postdoc on Ethnography: The VU School of Business and Economics in Amsterdam is seeking an experienced ethnographic researcher with a Ph.D. in Business Administration, Management, Sociology, or a related social science field. The postdoctoral position focuses on conducting ethnographic studies of professional service robots at work, exploring their development in the lab and utilization on the work floor. This two-year position, funded by NWO, is part of a Vidi project and offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative research at the intersection of technology and work.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Ph.D. in Business Administration, Management, Sociology, or related field
  • Experience with qualitative inductive research methods and ethnographic research
  • Strong academic skills demonstrated by publications or conference papers
  • Motivation for high-quality qualitative research
  • Ability to combine creative and analytical thinking
  • Flexible and communicative skills for collaboration with industrial partners
  • Excellent English language skills; Dutch proficiency is advantageous

Job Description:

  • Design and conduct ethnographic studies of robotics, focusing on development and workplace usage
  • Perform ethnographic fieldwork, conduct literature reviews, write empirical research papers, and present at conferences
  • Contribute to teaching activities
  • Collaborate with industry partners, organize workshops, and disseminate findings
