Postdoc Position in Gender and Agroecology: A postdoctoral position is available at the Institute of Geography, University of Bern, for the period from December 1, 2023, to April 30, 2026. The position is part of the interdisciplinary research project “Agroecology for the Resilience of Territories in Senegal (ARTS),” funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation.

Designation: Postdoctoral Researcher (50-75%)

Research Area: Gender and Agroecology

Location: Institute of Geography, Hallerstrasse 12, 3012 Bern, Switzerland; with fieldwork in Senegal

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Excellent PhD degree in human geography or related social science disciplines (e.g., environmental social science, feminist political ecology)
  • Proven research experience in gender studies, social movements, and demonstrated interest in agroecology
  • Excellent qualitative research skills with practical experience in qualitative research methods
  • Excellent language skills in English and French; Wolof is an asset
  • Practical or research experiences in Senegal or Sub-Saharan Africa are a plus
  • Team orientation, working in a precise, engaged, and self-organized manner, with skills and commitment to work in an interdisciplinary field

Job Description: The postdoc will conduct research within the “Feminist Agroecology” research line of ARTS. Responsibilities include research leadership, fieldwork in Senegal, academic endeavors, and community outreach. The position offers a dynamic and intercultural research environment, close supervision and collaboration, and a funded 30-month position, including a fieldwork budget.
