Postdoc Position in Grid Integration: The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) at the University of Twente is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to contribute to a multidisciplinary team focused on long-duration energy storage (LDES) for grid support, flexibility, and electrification of the Dutch industry. This position is part of the RVO project “SLDbatt” and provides an opportunity for high-impact research.

Postdoc Position in Grid Integration and Support Applications of Long-Duration Energy Storage Systems

Grid integration, Long-Duration Energy Storage Systems, Power Systems, Power Electronics, Techno-economic assessments.

Location: University of Twente, Enschede, Netherlands

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Systems and Operations Research.
  • Proven experience in modeling, simulation, and analysis of power systems using software tools (e.g., OpenDSS, PandaPower, PSCAD).
  • Strong skills in mathematical modeling and optimization, programming (MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C++, etc.).
  • Familiarity with simulation tools (HIL, RTDS) is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills with a capability to present results effectively and publish in international journals.

Job Description:
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will:

  • Lead research integration and coordination within the SLDbatt project.
  • Engage in modeling, simulation, and optimization across various LDES technologies.
  • Provide techno-economic insights for real-life applications to accelerate deployment.
  • Collaborate closely with a second postdoctoral researcher focused on converter designs.
  • Contribute to joint publications and stakeholder engagement.
