Job Description
Mission & Responsibilities
As a Postdoctoral Scientist, you will:
- Shape the future of integrated lithium niobate photonics in a young, ambitious lab.
- Develop first-of-their-kind hybrid platforms for ultra-sensitive, ultra-precise, and ultra-compact chips enabling metrology functions, millimeterwave photonics, or quantum spectroscopy.
- Lead experimental efforts in technical aspects (optical measurement setup design, high-frequency electronics, mechanical components), fabrication (scalable and reliable hybrid photonic devices on electro-optic platforms), and conceptual development (novel measurement/generation schemes, exploring precision limits).
- Contribute to the automatization of measurement routines and comprehensive characterization of fabricated samples.
- Bridge microwave/millimeterwave/terahertz science and technology with modern fabrication techniques.
- Contribute to grant applications to grow your own research agenda and promote scientific independence (e.g., Marie Curie grants).
- Supervise younger scientists (Bachelor level and above) to enhance mentorship skills.
- Lead international collaborations and deliver periodic progress reports.
- Push low-loss nanofabrication protocols of electro-optic platforms (with or without superconductors) in the cleanroom.
- Develop novel optical setups, including driving software/hardware, and automatize measurement procedures.
- Develop and invent novel hybrid optical-terahertz electronics nanostructures and integrated photonic circuits using simulation software.
- Write scientific publications, file patents, and disseminate work at national and international conferences.
What We Offer
- A unique opportunity to contribute to new avenues in terahertz photonics within a young and dynamic team.
- Excellent infrastructure, including the EPFL cleanroom, the Lausanne Center for Ultrafast Science, and the Quantum Science Center at EPFL.
- Competitive salary and coverage of conference costs.
- A dynamic and inspiring scientific community.
Eligibility/Qualification
Mandatory Skills & Interests
- Strong interest in integrated photonics, high-frequency electronics, quantum metrology, and/or electro-optic transduction.
- Strong nanofabrication skills.
- Hands-on attitude and an interest in taking on new challenges.
Desired Skills & Experience
- Prior experience in integrated photonics, high-frequency electronics, quantum metrology, or electro-optic transduction.
- Prior experience with Thin-Film Lithium Niobate (TFLN) is desirable but not mandatory.
- Strong simulation skills in Python, Matlab, Labview, Inventor, Illustrator, Tidy 3D, CST Microwave Studio, and Comsol.
- Analytical skills for modeling photonic systems.
