Eligibility/Qualification

  • PhD in statistics, computational mathematics, computational materials discovery, or a related field.
  • Excellent academic track record with prior research experience in at least one of the following:
  • Quantum-chemical or materials simulations
  • Bayesian optimization or experimental design
  • Inverse problems in physics or engineering simulations.
  • Proficiency in scientific coding, preferably in Julia, Python, or Matlab.
  • Strong collaboration skills and motivation for interdisciplinary research.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Experience with sustainable software engineering or high-performance computing is a plus.

Job Description

As a Postdoctoral researcher, you will:

  • Engage in tackling challenging interdisciplinary research topics aimed at advancing Bayesian optimization methods for inverse materials design.
  • Utilize algorithmic differentiation techniques within the density-functional toolkit (DFTK) to enhance material property simulations.
  • Collaborate with other materials simulation groups at EPFL to apply your findings to practical materials modeling problems.
  • Supervise undergraduate research students as needed.
