Postdoc Position in Molecular Ecology: The Department of Ecology, Environment and Plant Sciences is offering a 2-year postdoctoral position in Marine Molecular Ecology focusing on fish adaptation, specifically spring and autumn spawning herring (Clupea harengus membras), to the seasonal dynamics of the Baltic Sea. Financed by a postdoctoral Fellowship from the Carl Trygger Foundation, the successful applicant will join a collaborative team aiming to understand how different herring spawning stocks adapt to environmental changes.

Location: Department of Ecology, Environment and Plant Sciences, Stockholm University, Sweden

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD degree in biology, ecology, bioinformatics, or related sciences
  • Profound knowledge in fish and/or plankton ecology
  • Experience with DNA metabarcoding or metagenomics
  • Strong data analysis skills and bioinformatics expertise
  • Willingness to collaborate
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English

Job Description: As a Postdoctoral Research Associate, your responsibilities will include field sampling and laboratory DNA analysis of fish larvae and plankton communities, bioinformatics and statistical analysis, interaction with multiple research groups, and publication of scientific results. You will contribute to understanding the adaptation of herring spawning stocks to environmental dynamics and make recommendations for coastal ecosystem and herring population conservation.
