Eligibility / Qualification

Required Qualifications

  • Education: A PhD in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field with specialization in structural reliability, probabilistic methods, infrastructure assessment, or durability (doctoral degree must be completed at the time of appointment).
  • Core Competencies:
    • Strong background in structural reliability, probabilistic/semi-probabilistic analysis, and safety formats.
    • Documented experience with time-variant models for structural load-bearing capacity, deterioration processes, or life-cycle analysis.
    • Proficiency with methods like Monte Carlo simulation, FORM/SORM, or similar probabilistic techniques.
    • Ability to process experimental, monitoring, or inspection data for model updating and uncertainty quantification.
    • Solid knowledge of existing structures, particularly concrete structures and bridges.
    • Strong publication record in international peer-reviewed journals.
    • Excellent proficiency in spoken and written English.

Meritorious Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Experience applying climate change scenarios to structural/infrastructure assessments.
  • Knowledge of code calibration, partial safety factors, or assessment standards for existing structures.
  • Experience converting technical research into practical decision-support tools or guidelines for infrastructure managers and public authorities.

Job Description

As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will undertake research combining strong methodological developments with practical applications, leading to journal publications and conference presentations. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing semi-probabilistic and probabilistic frameworks for existing infrastructure under climate change.
  • Integrating time-dependent deterioration models with climate projections.
  • Updating analytical models using inspection and monitoring data.
  • Calibrating and comparing safety formats.
  • Translating analytical research into actionable decision-support tools.
  • Assisting with student supervision, teaching, and research proposal preparation.
