Postdoc Position on X-ray Imaging: The Subsurface Environmental Processes Group (SEP Group) led by Dr. Joaquín Jiménez-Martínez at the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag) and ETH Zurich, in collaboration with the Center for X-ray Analytics and the Concrete and Asphalt Laboratory at the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Material Science and Technology (Empa), is offering a postdoctoral position to investigate transport in unsaturated porous media. The position is funded for one year, with the possibility of extension, and is expected to start as soon as possible.

Eligibility/Qualification:
- PhD in physics, engineering, geosciences, or related fields.
- Solid background/experience and interest in computational methods.
- Strong background in imaging techniques, especially X-ray-based imaging (experience is a plus).
- Clear interest in applying imaging techniques for studying environmental and industrial processes.
- Advantageous to have experience in the study of flow and transport in porous media.
- Strong disposition to work independently and in a team.
- Excellent communication skills for effective sharing of project findings with the scientific community.
Job Description: The postdoc position will focus on: (I) Exploring the use of X-ray micro-tomography (X-ray μCT) for quantifying chaotic advection and mixing in porous media resembling natural systems. (II) Assessing the control exerted on these processes by the liquid phase saturation degree.
The role involves experimental investigation, hydrodynamic and topological characterization using numerical modeling, X-ray μCT experiments, and image analysis using the infrastructure at the Center for X-ray Analytics at Empa. The interdisciplinary nature of the project encourages collaboration with experts from different disciplines at leading research institutes.
