Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in a relevant field such as biophysics, quantitative biology, microbiology, or evolution
  • Experience with microscopy and microfluidics preferred
  • Proficiency in programming for data analysis and/or mathematical modeling
  • Strong research background demonstrated through publications
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

Job Description: As a postdoctoral fellow in the research group of Prof. Erik van Nimwegen, you will:

  • Investigate Escherichia coli during stationary phase as a case study of non-growing bacteria
  • Utilize novel quantitative approaches to track growth and gene expression with single-cell resolution
  • Explore physiological and evolutionary aspects of stationary phase using experimental techniques such as molecular biology, genetics, video-microscopy, microfluidics, and microfabrication
  • Collaborate with theoretical researchers in the lab to analyze data and develop models
  • Tailor the project to your interests and skills while building on recent results obtained in the group
