Postdoc Researcher in Computational Methods: The Faculty of Humanities at the University of Amsterdam invites applications for a Postdoc Researcher position in Computational Methods. This role is part of the CAT4SMR project, led by Dr. Bernhard Rieder, focusing on stabilizing and enhancing tools for the collection and analysis of social media data within the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis (ASCA).

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Ph.D. in Media Studies, information retrieval, or a relevant discipline.
  • Strong research skills with a track record of publishing in relevant journals or a demonstrable capacity to develop such a record.
  • Cooperative attitude for collaborative research.
  • Proficient in Python programming, data science libraries, and front-end development techniques.
  • Experience with empirical data science or digital methods projects.
  • Familiarity with multiple social media platforms, APIs, and data scraping.
  • Knowledge of relevant media studies and data science literatures.
  • Fluent in English.

Job Description:

The selected candidate will:

  • Implement new computational research methods in 4CAT.
  • Conduct research, present results at workshops and conferences, and publish co-authored, peer-reviewed articles.
  • Participate in project research group meetings and contribute to a shared knowledge base.
  • Co-organize knowledge dissemination activities.

Contract Terms:

  • Full-time temporary employment for ten months.
  • 28.8 hours per week.
  • Preferred starting date: March 1, 2024.

Salary:

  • €4,332 to €5,929 gross per month based on relevant experience (excluding holiday and year-end allowances).
