Eligibility / Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Education: A recent or soon-to-be-completed Ph.D. (within the last 0–5 years) in Physics, Astronomy, Quantum Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Analytical Skills: Considerable analytical and troubleshooting skills to develop, refine, and improve data analysis techniques.
- Communication: Demonstrated ability to author high-quality scientific reports, present technical concepts/proposals to interdisciplinary teams, and maintain strong oral and written communication skills.
- Teamwork & Values: Ability to work collaboratively across scientific divisions and embody Argonne’s core values of Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.
Preferred / Beneficial Background (Not strictly required):
- Background in condensed matter and materials physics (especially spin and detector physics), device synthesis, or quantum materials (optics, photonics, spectroscopy, optically active point defects).
- Familiarity with nanofabrication techniques (optical and electron-beam lithography), microwave engineering, hardware setups (detectors, RF electronics, NMR/ESR), or modeling/data analysis programming.
Job Description & Key Responsibilities
- Sensor Development & Optimization: Design, synthesize, and characterize next-generation NV diamond membrane quantum sensors tailored for demanding experimental environments.
- Platform Integration: Integrate quantum sensors into microelectronic and photonic platforms for precision electromagnetic field mapping in particle physics detector setups.
- Experimental Validation: Validate sensor performance in laboratory testbeds and operational experimental environments.
- Prototyping & Scaling: Contribute to the development of scalable, field-ready quantum sensor modules for future high-energy physics experiments.
- Dissemination: Publish research findings in high-impact peer-reviewed scientific journals and present results at national and international conferences.
