Eligibility / Qualification:
- Completed university degree (not Bachelor) and PhD in Biology, Aquatic Science, or related discipline
- Experience with environmental sequencing techniques (e.g., metabarcoding or -omics) is advantageous
- Knowledge of genomic and cell biological methods for studying microbial processes is desirable
- Preferably experienced in working with microbial eukaryotes (protists and/or algae), their viruses, or plankton in general
Job Description / Responsibilities:
- Conduct research on:
- The effects of predatory protists and/or viruses on algae and cyanobacteria in running waters like the Moselle River
- Mechanisms of immunity to cyanobacterial toxins (e.g., microcystins) in microbial eukaryotes using physiological and genomic tools
- Participate in teaching, academic administration, and research dissemination
- Assist with field sampling and excursions
- Present findings at scientific conferences and in peer-reviewed journals
