Postdoctoral Associate at CAES: A Post-Doctoral position is available at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES) in New Haven, Connecticut. The position is funded through a USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) grant focused on testing novel nanocomposites using Phosphorus from agricultural wastes, particularly animal bones and manures, on plant health and the phytobiome.

Research Area: Testing novel nanocomposites using Phosphorus from agricultural wastes, impact on plant health and the phytobiome. Collaboration with the University of Delaware and National Research Council of Italy on material development. Soil and rhizosphere microbiome characterization using molecular techniques, greenhouse and field studies with various plant species, and evaluation of soil impacts.

Eligibility/Qualification:
- Ph.D. in a relevant field
- Familiarity with molecular techniques related to soil microbiome characterization
- Experience in plant growth under greenhouse and field conditions
- Proficiency in extraction/digestion procedures
- Desirable skills in analytical instrumentation (ICP-MS, GC-MS/LC-MS) and electron microscopy
Job Description: The hired Post-Doctoral Scientist will collaborate with CAES staff to test novel nanocomposites in greenhouse and field studies. The role involves working with a variety of plant species, conducting soil and rhizosphere microbiome characterization using molecular techniques, and evaluating the impact on plant health and the environment. Experience in extraction/digestion procedures, analytical instrumentation, and electron microscopy is desirable. The position is for a duration of 2.25 years, starting as early as 5/1/2024, with a starting salary of $55,592/yr. and includes medical and dental benefits.
