Postdoctoral Associate at Tewhey Lab: The Tewhey Lab at The Jackson Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Associate to contribute to groundbreaking research in understanding the genetic mechanisms underlying human complex traits and the impact of genetic variation on gene regulatory function.
Designation
Postdoctoral Associate
Research Area
Functional Genomics, Genetic Mechanisms of Human Complex Traits, Gene Regulatory Function
Location
Bar Harbor, Maine
Eligibility/Qualification
- Education: M.D or Ph.D. in biology, engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, or related fields.
- Experience: Strong publication record indicating research involvement and potential.
- Skills:
- For experimental-focused applicants: Proficiency in scientific computing software (R) and scripting languages (bash/perl/python).
- For computational-focused applicants: Experience in human genetics and handling large genomic datasets is preferred; however, biological sciences background is not a prerequisite.
- A passion for advancing understanding of human health challenges.
Job Description
The Postdoctoral Associate will work with a team of scientists on projects that involve:
- Developing and applying high-throughput genetic techniques (e.g., MPRA, CRISPR-based screens).
- Characterizing non-coding regions of the genome and constructing computational models to predict the activity of cis-regulatory elements across various cell types and states.
- Investigating how genetic variation impacts cis-regulatory elements using both cellular and in vivo models, focusing on immune, metabolic, and aging-related phenotypes.
- Utilizing machine learning approaches to model regulatory activity and develop synthetic gene regulatory elements for therapeutic purposes.
How to Apply
Interested candidates must submit the following documents:
- A cover letter detailing past research accomplishments, research interests, and career goals.
- A current CV.
- Contact information for three references.
Last Date to Apply
Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
