Post-Doctoral Fellowship Position at USA, Ozbolat Laboratory at Penn State
Postdoctoral Associate at the Tewhey Lab: The Tewhey Lab at The Jackson Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Associate to engage in cutting-edge research focused on the genetic mechanisms underlying human complex traits. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to significant projects that explore how genetic variation influences gene regulatory functions using both experimental and computational methodologies.

Designation

Postdoctoral Associate

Research Area

Functional Genomics, Genetics, Machine Learning Applications in Genomics

Location

Bar Harbor, Maine

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Education: M.D. or Ph.D. in biology, engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience:
  • Strong publication record evidencing scientific and research achievement.
  • For experimental applicants: Proficiency in scientific computing software (R) and scripting languages (bash/perl/python).
  • For computational applicants: Familiarity with human genetics and handling large genomic datasets is preferred; a background in biological sciences is not mandatory if there is a strong willingness to learn.
  • Passion: A genuine interest in solving major challenges in human health and advancing the understanding of human biology.

Job Description

As a Postdoctoral Associate in the Tewhey Lab, you will:

  • Conduct novel high-throughput genetic techniques (e.g., MPRA and CRISPR-based screens) to investigate non-coding regions of the genome.
  • Analyze datasets to build computational models predicting the activity of cis-regulatory elements across various cell types and conditions.
  • Collaborate on ongoing projects examining the impact of genetic variation on cis-regulatory elements, concentrating on immune, metabolic, and aging-related phenotypes.
  • Explore opportunities to apply machine learning approaches for modeling regulatory activity and developing synthetic gene regulatory elements for biomedical applications.
